How to slay the home office game

Home Office Tips

You guys I hope you and your loved ones are doing well under the current Corona conditions and you are being safe. In times like these, I am once again so incredibly grateful for the digitalization with all its technology and tools. Especially because it allows us to keep in touch via video, phone, and messages when we need to physically stay apart. Moreover, it enables many people, including me, to continue my work from home – cheers to the home office!

If you are also one of the lucky ones, that is able to keep working from home, this post might be helpful to you. I will be sharing with you my best tips to make you slay the home office game and keep you productive af.

1. Stay cute

It may sound totally unnecessary, but let me tell you: From a girl who has failed at this for the longest time, I can not stress the importance of this step enough. You need to get ready for work! It truly makes all the difference if you sit at your desk and feel put together and ready to slay. Not only will you be more productive, but you will also be ready for any impromptu Skype calls coming your way. So do yourself a favor and shower, get dressed and put on some make-up.

2. Give yourself a break

In the home office, it is incredibly easy to get absorbed in a task and just keep working away. That is an awesome feeling that might leave you thinking that you have the world’s best work ethic. However, it might not be great for your productivity in the long run. During the day your mind requires longer and shorter breaks from time to time to recharge. This way you can maintain your concentration and focus more effectively.

And trust me, I know it’s only half as fun without your office BFF there to bitch about your other co-workers. But why not use the time for a lunch date with yourself? It might be more interesting than you thought.

3. Show your face

Try to make at least one or two video calls a day. What that does is, it keeps you accountable for tip number one. Because listen, nobody wants to be that one co-worker that really took home office to the next level. Like, come on Susan, we didn’t need to see you in your hair curlers.

In addition, it also helps you not to feel less social. Especially if you are used to working in an office setting, working from home can be strange and lonely in the long run. Through occasional face-to-face video conferencing, you can counteract that and continue to feel like you are part of a team.

4. Get out of bed

You really do not need a completely furnished, separate room. And yes, the home office also works without the iron wall-organizer-board we’ve all pinned on Pinterest. However, I do feel strongly about the fact that you should have a dedicated workspace. It makes all the difference to your mental health if you separate your work life from your private life – even, or especially if you work from home. Therefore it is important that you do not work from your bed or couch. These are holy, no-work spaces and also your back will thank me later.

That was it, my top work from home tips. If you have any additional must-do things for a good home office situation, please leave a comment.

Stay safe and be nice. xx
